How to start a making money blog?

Making money online sounds a great idea and theoretically it seems easy. Thus most people rush to setup a blog especially through a free blog. Do not take me wrong, I am not saying that you cannot earn money from free blogs. You can but the way I look at it, if you are serious about making money online then you should really consider getting a self-hosted blog.

How do you start a self-hosted blog? This questions have been popped-up by several of my friends.

For the benefits of my friends and all of you who are thinking of starting a making money blog, here are the simple process outline. I hope the list below will help you in your quest. But before I start, it’s good to note that this is how I did my self-hosted blog and the process below might not be relevant to everyone.

Now, let’s cut the crap and go ahead with the process outline on how to start a making money blog.

1. Find a unique blog name and register a domain name

First of all you need to get a unique name for your blog. Then try checking the name whether it has been registered or not. You can check the domain name from godaddy.com.
Once, you have decided on your unique name and your extension (.com, .org, .net), Register your domain. You can register your domain name almost anywhere in the net. One of my favourite is godaddy.com.
However, if you are subscribing special package from a web hosting provider, they may provide it for free and best of all, they will do the all the registration for you.

2. Get a web hosting company

Once you’ve got your domain name, you will need to decide which web hosting company is suitable for you. There are millions of them in the net. Their server could be located internationally or locally with various offers. I normally will select the company that provides me with the best value out of my money.
This include less downtime, reasonable price, good customer service, back-up service, etc. Here are some of those hosting company that I’ve tested and would recommend to my friends - 1. Exabytes, 2. MercuMaya, 3. HostNine

3. Choose your blog platform & install it

Here, you need to decide which blog platform you prefer most. There are so many blog platform out there so just pick-one. I would recommend wordpress.
Normally, there is an installation guide in every platform that you’ve chosen. So, don’t worry so much about the installation. If you are using cpanel control, then you can easily install wordpress from fantastico. It’s just a click away.

4. Determine and get a theme for your blog

The next step would be deciding on your theme. Basically, a theme shows your future readers on how your website will look and feel. Theme also plays an important role in blogging. How do you decide which theme to use?
Deciding you theme will depend on what your blog is all about.
If want a nicer theme you can always ask a coder to do it for you.
Bear in mind that, at this point of time, you can already start setting up your blog based on your preferences.
